More questions will be posted as they are asked on our Form (linked at the top of the page).
- A: No, Summit is only used in Core Classes (aka, Science, History, English, Math). Elective Classes all use Canvas.
- A: Under each Focus Area there are a list of Objectives that house a variety of resources students can look through to study on their own.
Q: What can my student work on at home? Is homework assigned daily?
- A: Your student can take Diagnostics for PFAs/AFAs, study for PFAs/AFAs by looking at the Objective Resources, and complete Checkpoints/Cool Downs in their Project line (top line of their Year page). Students can review and revise Checkpoints, Cool Downs, and Final Products at home as well. If your student is following along in class and utilizing Thunder Academy time, they may not have any homework. The homework they have may also just be the revision of Checkpoints based on teacher feedback, rather than new work to complete.
- A: Student grades are updated upon the completion of a Final Product (in Science, History, and English) or the taking of an End of Unit Assessment (in Math). If the unit is not complete yet, your student's grades won't change
- A: Summit is VERY transparent when it comes to students getting behind, missing things, etc. Check your student's Year Page with them often. If there are a lot of Reds and Yellows, they need your support.
Q: If my student finishes all their PFAs, does that mean they are done with the course and can move on?
- A: Power Focus Areas (PFAs) and Additional Focus Areas (AFAs) are only a section of our courses. Your student will still need to attend class to work on Projects (the top line on the year page), take End of Unit Assessments, and submit Final Products.
Q: My student wants to retake a PFA/AFA because they got an 8 out of 10. Can they?
- A: They can, but getting a higher score won't change their grade. All Content Assessments are 10 questions and students pass if they score an 8, 9, or a 10. It doesn't count on their grade as an 80%, 90%. If they get an 8/10, they have 100% on that focus area, they are proficient and can move on.
Q: It's March and the material on a test from October is finally clicking with my student. Can they retake a 1st term test in 3rd term?
- A: Absolutely! Summit grades on a full year, full course basis. This means your student can retake anything from any point in the year at any time.
- A: No, you cannot pass any Summit Course if you have a Red in the Project line (top line) or the PFA line (second line). If you have a red in either of those places, it essentially is saying you haven't taken a test for that class. The Progress tab could show a passing grade with that project/pfa not scored, but if the work submitted for that project is not done well, the student's grade may drop. It is important to complete all projects and pfas in each of your classes.
